Transportation

Surrey provides rides in vans and private cars, offering transportation services to medical appointments, grocery stores, hairdressers, etc., and from home to Surrey locations for activities or volunteering.

Shared Ride Service

Surrey provides a “shared ride” service which is similar to carpooling with other seniors in your area.   This door-to-door service is available weekdays 8 am to 5 pm. There is a fare for this service which varies based on your age (over or under age 65), your county, and the distance traveled.  Riders must register with Community Transit (Delaware County) or Rover (Chester County). Please call in advance as all reservations are on a first come, first serve basis.

Volunteer Driver Escort Service

For those members who cannot use the shared ride program, Surrey volunteers provide rides using their own vehicles. Volunteer Driver Escort Services are available weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This is a free service and a direct benefit of membership in Surrey. The volunteers do not take tips, but members are encouraged to make donations in support of the program.  Members typically make a $5 - $10 donation for local rides, including grocery shopping.  For roundtrip rides outside the local area, a $10 - $20 donation has been the norm. For Philadelphia roundtrip rides, a $20 - $30 donation would be appreciated.

Private Transportation Service

For members who require more assistance or personalized service, Surrey can provide private transportation.  This service can be a one-time event such as traveling to the airport, or the service can be ongoing through a companion.  Rates vary depending on distance and request, but start at $23 per hour.

For all of our transportation services we request at least three days notice when scheduling rides. To schedule transportation, please call the Surrey office closest to you.
