Individual Donations Matched Through June 30, 2014

Throughout my years of hiking mountainsides and other gorgeous places, I have experienced scenery that has taken my breath away, and been overcome with the difficulty of finding the words to describe it.

A few months ago, I had a similar experience here at Surrey--caused by the incredible generosity of a Surrey member. This member believes in Surrey’s vision so much that they are willing to match donations received this fiscal year (7/1/13 - 6/30/14) from individuals, up to $50,000 per donor.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Surrey, and no words of thanks can convey our deep appreciation.

What is especially exciting about this opportunity is the donor’s interest in involving as many members, donors, volunteers and community citizens as possible. This gift is not a dollar amount match that Surrey’s development office will try to meet with just a few generous large donors.  Instead, the intent is for as many Surrey supporters to get as involved as possible—with gifts of all sizes!

Surrey’s Board of Directors took a big step last year by approving a strategic plan and then acting on that plan by purchasing a building.  Now we have to find the funds to make that space into what Surrey wants and needs in response to our members, volunteers and the community.

At the same time, the strategic plan also calls for new programs—some of which you will read about in this newsletter—and for renovating some of the spaces in our Delaware County locations, as well as investing in our infrastructure, such as a new Surrey-wide telephone system.

We know that the populations over 55 years of age have been steadily increasing in our service area and the demographics indicate they will continue to do so. Surrey is positioning itself to meet your needs for aging services for the future, and doing so in a manner that involves the older adult in making their own decisions and choices—through education and service offerings, and by providing welcoming spaces for exploring life choices.
