Surrey Giving Back at the Holidays
In addition to assisting 7,500 seniors in our local neighborhoods, Surrey also find ways to help others in the community. Many times this involves utilizing the skill and talent of the Surrey members themselves. Other times, Surrey partners with various organizations. Surrey does this all year long, but the holidays bring some special projects.
This holiday season, all Surrey locations have groups of knitters that are making hats and scarves for various members of our community, such as these Philadelphia school students. Surrey members are also making incredible quilts and blankets which are brought by Surrey staff and volunteers to homebound seniors or those that have been hospitalized.
Surrey has several programs this holiday season for which they are seeking public support. Surrey volunteers will be putting together emergency food bags to be delivered to seniors at risk in our community in the event of bad weather this winter. Surrey is requesting donations of the following: individual packets of instant oatmeal, juice boxes, packets of non-fat dry milk, raisins, small peanut butter jars, crackers, chilli or beef stew, fruit grain bars, single serving cans of fruit, and pouches of tuna.
Surrey is also collecting donations of non-perishable food items to be distributed to local food banks. All these donations can be dropped off before December 20th at any Surrey location. For more information call, 610-647-6404.
