Veterans and friends participated in Surrey’s first Veterans Expo on November 10, 2017 at the Surrey Center in Havertown. VITAS Hospice, Veterans Benefits Assistance and the Senior Directory co-sponsored this event where more than 20 vendors shared the services they offered to Vets.

“Surrey has a long history of supporting Veterans and celebrating Veterans’ Day with specialized programs and services,” said Cheryl Thomas, Center Director of Surrey Havertown. “Hosting the Veterans Expo was an honor for Surrey. We love our Vets.”

“For Philadelphia Senior Directory there is nothing more rewarding than uniting with our local community partners to honor and provide much-needed resources to our Courageous Senior Veterans!” said Rachel Kaufman of Senior Directory.

"At VITAS, we like to say that 'Every Day is Veterans Day' because as the nation's leading provider of hospice services, we have a deep understanding of the unique needs that veterans face at the end of life. Needs that are best met by our team of trained hospice professionals, including Veteran Liaisons who, as veterans themselves, provide special services that are meaningful to veterans and their families in our service. This is why VITAS was glad to help plan and participate in this expo that helped reach many veterans in our community," Sara Burns, Community Liaison, VITAS Healthcare of Philadelphia.

David Prewitt, a Veteran and leader of the Veterans Program at Surrey in Devon was happy to attend and see several of the Veterans he has connected with at Surrey and through other Veterans’ organizations. Dave and Dan McCall, knew each other from past veterans gatherings but learned at the expo they had not only served at the same time but in fact Dan had been a passenger on one of the helicopter flights piloted by Dave. “This shows how Veterans’ programs bring together Veterans who discover connections, and deepen connections with others who have served,” says Cheryl. “Visit our website often as we have several Veterans programs planned for 2018.”
