Long Distance Caregiving

Long distance caregiving has become a common situation in modern families. It can be stressful, expensive, time consuming and emotional. The National Institute on Aging published a guide to help families navigate caregiving for their loved ones who are not local. This brochure, "Long-Distance Caregiving: Twenty Questions and Answers,"  has useful tips for planning, conversations, resources and more.

Surrey offers a wide variety support services for families who are caring for their loved ones from a distance. Our Surrey On Call program is a 24-hour service in which a care manager accompanies clients in the hospital during a health emergency or hospitalization. In addition, care managers can provide transition plans from hospital to rehab to home, accompany older adults to medical appointments, assess an individual's ability to live independently and regularly update family members about the status of their loved ones. Surrey Home Services offers housecleaners, companions, caregivers, daily money management for help with bills and more.
