Transportation services for seniors
Surrey offers three types of transportation for our members:
Shared Ride Service
Surrey provides a “shared ride” service which is similar to carpooling with other seniors in your area. This door-to-door service is available weekdays 8 am to 5 pm. There is a fare for this service which varies based on your age (over or under age 65), your county, and the distance traveled. Riders must register with Community Transit (Delaware County) or Rover (Chester County). Please call 2 days in advance for reservations.
Who this is best for: Seniors who are able to step into and out of a van.
Volunteer Driver Escort Service
For those members who cannot use the shared ride program, Surrey volunteers provide rides using their own vehicles. Volunteer Driver Escort Services are available weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This is a free service and only provided to Surrey members. The volunteers do not take tips, but members are encouraged to make donations in support of the program. Please call 4 days in advance to schedule a volunteer ride.
Who this is best for: Seniors who are traveling to destinations not on the van route or to medical appointments and local errands.
Private Transportation Service
For members who require more assistance or personalized service, Surrey can provide private transportation. This service can be a one-time event such as traveling to the airport, or the service can be ongoing through a companion. Rates vary depending on distance and request, but start at $23 per hour.
Who this is best for: Seniors who require more assistance or are traveling earlier than 8 and later than 4:30.
