Medicare Counseling

Help from Trained Expert Volunteers

Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight – PA MEDI (formerly APPRISE) is a free health insurance counseling program designed to help older Pennsylvanians with Medicare.

Counselors are specially trained staff and volunteers who can answer your questions about Medicare and provide you with objective, easy-to-understand information about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicaid, and Long-Term Care Insurance.

Appointments are available in-person for residents of Chester and Delaware Counties at Surrey Devon. To request an appointment, call Surrey Information and Assistance at 610-647-6404.

Recently, a Surrey member in Media met virtually with the PA MEDI counselor. The member, Susan,  said she was “drowning in medical bills” and needed help.

Through the individual counseling, Susan chose another plan that provides the same level of coverage (through the same insurance company) and her monthly premium went from $85/month to $19.90/month.  The bonus – her copay is less!

On top of that, the counselor suggested that Susan write to the hospital charities to see if they could help her. One local hospital charity covered the $975 bill that she owed there.

“I did not know where to begin before I met with the PA MEDI counselor,” Susan said.
