Non-profit receives Foxwynd Foundation Grant
Broomall PA. November 22, 2024. Surrey Services for Seniors is thrilled to announce it has received a $30,000 grant to help fund a new Dental Clinic for low-income older adults in Delaware County. The Foxwynd Foundation Donor Advised Fund (DAF) funded the Foxwynd Foundation’s generous donation to Surrey Services for Seniors.
“This grant aligns with the Foxwynd Foundation’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of underserved populations. By supporting Surrey Services for Seniors’ new dental clinic, we are helping ensure that older adults in Delaware County have access to essential dental care that impacts their overall health and quality of life. We are proud to partner with Surrey in fostering dignity, independence, and connection for seniors in our community.” Pamela Villagra, Executive Director, Foxwynd Foundation.
Grant funds have enabled Surrey to “meet seniors where they are” by providing free dental care to low-income seniors at Surrey’s Broomall center. The center offers subsidized programs, activities, hot lunches, social connection, and opportunities to volunteer. It is a place where seniors can find resources, community, and connection.
Dental care is not covered under original Medicare and the cost is often a barrier to regular care despite findings that:
- Seniors with dental disease are at higher risk of cancer, including of the mouth, breast, and prostate.
- Poor dental health is also tied to pneumonia and cardiovascular disease, risks that grow with age.
“This innovative partnership has enabled our two organizations to harness our diverse strengths, amplify our resources, and drive meaningful change together. We are thrilled that thanks to the Foxwynd Foundation grant and our partner, Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM), we are opening a second Surrey dental office at Surrey Broomall to provide older adults in Delaware county access to regular dental care, that they otherwise would not have.” Jill Whitcomb, President and CEO.
“We also would like to acknowledge the generous financial support Surrey received from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.” Whitcomb adds.
