Heroes Among Us

The Surrey Veterans group welcomes veterans and friends to their monthly meetings. Sign up for email notification and you will receive the agenda and meeting presenter prior to each meeting.

Past presentations have included:

  • Dr. Eugene Richardson, Jr., a member of the Tuskegee Airmen
  • WWII veteran Lt. Col. William Bonelli, Ret., who shared his first-person account of being on the ground during the invasion of Pearl Harbor
  • Tom Garvey, a veteran who lived in Veterans Stadium and described the experience in his book, The Secret Apartment: Vet Stadium, a surreal memoir
  • Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down about a 1993 military operation in Mogadishu. The book was made into a movie starring Josh Hartnett and Ewan McGregor

Presenters also help keep veterans informed about services and health care benefits to which they are entitled. These include changes to health care such as expanded disability coverage for exposure to Agent Orange as well as updates to pensions, life insurance, and burial services.

The group was started by Col. Dave Prewitt, Ret. and his late wife, Joan. For more information, please email here or call 610-647-6404.
